Happy Easter!

(Source: dailyanimals, via bestprankever)

As an International Studies major, I am fascinated with other cultures and human beings. So naturally, this video my Professor showed our class today fascinated me. It is about one of the last uncontacted tribes in the world. Yes, there are tribes who have had no connection with anyone outside their tribe. But why should they if they do not want to? They are in danger, however, because of oil and gold mining. If individuals continue to push closer to their living areas they could introduce diseases, such as the common cold which would be strong enough to wipe out their population. Have we become such a money hungry society that we would put other human beings in danger just because they chose to live solely off the Earth? Watch this video, be astonished like me, and hopefully you’ll feel the same heart for the natives as I did. (The video is in the article at the top)

9. I grew up on a farm with 6 horses, 8 donkeys, multiple dogs and cats, and chickens. I can honestly say those were the best days of my life, and if I am still living in the US when I am older, I hope to own a farm just like it.

10. My father was a state champion wrestler and trained for the Olympics, then suffered a tear from his neck to his shoulder and could not continue on with training camp.

11. My mother played D1 field hockey and softball.

12. I only wish I could play a D1 or D2 sport…

13. I am generally always in bed by 9:30-10:00.

14. I read the NYT and USATODAY everyday.

16. I am extremely competitive and if you have ever been in one my gym classes, well than you have seen this side of me.

21. I am a double major in International Studies with an Economic Development focus and Business Economics.

22. I’m an overachiever.

24. Country music…thumbs down.

47. I don’t like to dance, the only reason I liked school dances was because it gave me an excuse to switch over from gym shorts to a pretty dress for a night.

48. I LOVED high school…however, I would never go back.

49. I judge myself incredibly harshly, and I think that is the reason that so many people think that I do the same to them. I promise you, I don’t. I’m way too busy tearing myself apart about things to worry about things that other people choose to do with their lives.

50. I wish that I felt like people supported my choices and values in life…but the only people I feel that do are my parents and adults in my life. It tears me apart every time someone tells me that the solution to my problems is getting drunk. Not that I haven’t been before, and that’s why I can say this, but I genuinely do not enjoy it…yes that’s possible people. I don’t enjoy how it makes me feel and how it tastes…plus I’d rather spend my calories and money on something better like ice cream!

I’ve been wanting to make homemade granola bars for a long time. It’s nice to know exactly what’s in your food, especially with something that you eat for energy and a healthy snack.

I’ve been intimidated up to this point by the large amount of ingredients people put in them. I just wanted a basic granola bar: simple to make and inexpensive.

If you want to make them…

What you’ll need:

1 1/2 cups of rolled oats

1 cup chopped almonds (or other nuts)

1 cup dried cranberries (or other dried fruit)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup honey

What you’ll need to do:

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients. Spread into a well-greased pan. Bake for 10-20 minutes, depending on your crunch preference (the longer it cooks, the crunchier it gets). Let the granola cool before you cut it, or it will fall apart.

Just made these, and they are AWESOMEEEEE! Small note- if you are using raw honey make sure you heat it up first like 20/30 seconds so that you can pour it over your dry ingredients. And I also didn’t grease my pan I lined it with aluminum foil so I just lifted them out to cool then cut.

Overnight oats.

BASE - You’ll need 1/2 mashed banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 50 gr. of oats, 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar, optionally you can also use vanilla extract and any other spice you like.
In a jar or bowl, mash half banana, and stir in the sugar and oats. Once everything is mixed together very well, add the milk, and stir again. Let your oats refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with anything you fancy.

MOCHA - You’ll need 1/2 mashed banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 50 gr. of oats, 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of instant coffee powder, vanilla extract.
In a jar or bowl, mash half banana, and stir in the sugar and oats. In a glass or a cup, mix the milk with the instant coffee powder, and add it to the oats, stirring everything well. Let your oats refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with anything you fancy. My favourite toppings for this are berries, and walnuts.

CARROT CAKE - You’ll need 1/2 banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 50 gr. of oats, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 medium carrot (peeled), cinnamon, ginger, raisins.
In a food processor, process the peeled carrot, the half banana, the sugar, and the spices until you get a creamy mixture. Move it in a jar or bowl, and add oats, raisins, and milk. Let your oats refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with anything you fancy.

CHOCOLATEYou’ll need 1/2 banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 50 gr. of oats, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 or more cracked squares of chocolate, 1 tsp of cocoa powder, vanilla extract.
In a jar or bowl, mash half banana, and stir in the sugar, the cocoa powder, the cracked chocolate, and oats. Once everything is mixed together very well, add the milk, and stir again. Let your oats refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with anything you fancy. Strawberries and peanut butter are just perfect on this!

APPLE PIE - You’ll need 1/2 mashed banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 50 gr. of oats, 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar, 1 apple (half for the base, the rest for topping), cinnamon, vanilla extract, raisins.
In a food processor, process the half apple, the half banana, the sugar, vanilla extract, and the spices until you get a creamy mixture. Move it in a jar or bowl, and add oats, raisins, and milk. Let your oats refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with the other half of the apple and anything else you want.

MUESLI - You’ll need 1/2 mashed banana, 100 ml of your milk of choice, 60 gr. of your favourite muesli, cinnamon.
In a jar or bowl, mash half banana, and stir in the muesli and cinnamon. Once everything is mixed together very well, add the milk, and stir again. Let the mixture refrigerate overnight. In the morning you can either eat it as it is, or heat it up for about 1-2 minutes in the microwave, and top with anything you fancy.

If you love nut butters, you can add 1 tbsp of your favourite one in the jar before anything else, and melt it in the microwave. Then you can follow the recipe as you normally would, but your breakfast will get much creamier and tastier!

Nothing like a run before the sun rises on, according to Robert Frost “…the most beautiful campus there ever was.” And to make it even better, I ended at Starbucks and had my favorite, Venti Iced Coffee with Skim and SF Vanilla…Just turned nine and I feel as though I’ve already conquered the day :)

Take me back, missing my good tan & late nights with good friends.

Read an article about how people are angry at the little innocent groundhog who predicts the season…dear people, if you didn’t rely on an animal to tell you when Spring is coming in the first place then there would be no problem. It’s a sign that you should leave the poor groundhog alone
